There's been quite a lot of backlash in the indie community against indies that are using AI. I'd like to take the opportunity to formally state my opinion about AI.
In short? I'm strongly against it. I'm seeing businesses all around me in every type of business using it to create marketing materials, labels, logos, graphics, write descriptions, manage their time, do their research... you name it. And it all feels so incredibly lazy and short-sighted to me. I want no part in it!
I'm a professionally trained photographer, graphic artist and art director. I'm a musician. I'm a person who relishes working with their hands and creating unique, personal things.
All of my work through Aromaleigh is an artistic reflection of my inner landscape. It's a little piece of my soul, in sparkle form. I'm extremely hands-on and handle all aspects of my business. AI will never be able to replace my personal touch, my perspectives, or the subtle nuances of an actual human being interacting with you, writing posts for you, creating labels, graphics and photography for the collections you're looking forward to.
I've seen what AI has become in the last few years and quite honestly, it terrifies me.
When I see it in my social media feeds, I block or remove that content from my feed. I struggle with taking businesses seriously who use it- even small businesses. Seeing our government using it disgusts me as well, because it normalizes it. Use of AI should be anything but normal.
I'm against the massive energy and resources it uses, also. There are environmental and energy and water consumption issues that we all should be very concerned with.
Several years ago, I dabbled with loading my own personal photographs into a very early AI generator and applying artistic filters to it. It felt like photoshop, but with an element of randomness. It was very simplistic. But AI has advanced so far beyond this that it's taking over. It's replacing actual human artists, linguists, translators, writers, designers, musicians, and more. It's using work done by humans to train itself, pilfering the work of human hands and minds in order to "teach" itself how to mimic being human.
And that's the thing. It will never, ever be human. It will never, ever have a soul. It will always be a fake aggregate of reality.
And that has no place in my work, and never will.
