Greetings! I'm Cristiana, the owner and creative force behind Aromaleigh, and here's my no makeup challenge offering.
Also, though... I discovered the other day that people are googling my age and skincare routine, via my monthly google search/site report. Even searching for my ethnicity! This is quite funny for me, as I honestly had no idea anyone cared about this in regards to me, but since it is a thing, here's the tea, google. Do with it what you will. ๐
I was born in 1970, I'll be 55 next month. I started Aromaleigh when I was 27. I am comfortable in my skin and choosing to age naturally without any procedures or things like botox or fillers. These things just aren't for me personally.ย
One's decision to incorporate them is their own, and there's no judgement here! For me, not being able to afford any of these things also factors, but I think even if I could, that I'd choose to do what I'm doing now. Simply because I'm tired of the pressure placed on women in our society, and how aging has become such a dirty word and double standard. This is the face I was given, and at my age I personally want to care for myself, but I don't want to fixate on aging and lose sight of all the other things that bring richness into my life while feeling I have to strive to look younger everyday. I'm no longer younger. I'm almost 55!
(Disclaimer: Back in my late 30's at the height of Aromaleigh's indie success, and when I was very active as the face of my brand and feeling a lot of scrutiny towards my looks, I did try botox a few times. I absolutely hated how it looked on me, and it gave me pretty severe headaches)
Sun avoidance is huge for me. I am constantly wearing big floppy sun hats and/or sunscreen. I avoid going outside in higher UV index weather during midday.
My skincare routine is simple and affordable, because I am a frugal person who sticks to a strict budget.
I use an Aveeno cleanser, and Thayers rosewater toner (also as a setting spray). I don't cleanse in the AM, as this upsets my skin barrier. At night I use a prescription Musely estriol/vitamin C cream mixed with hyaluronic acid to help it spread better, over freshly cleansed skin.
I like GoPure Skin Care brand eye cream and neck cream, and I use their Dramatically Dewy serum in the mornings. The neck cream in particular is pretty amazing. Go Pure is a niche skincare brand and I think their prices, especially if you subscribe- are great for the quality of their products.
About 2 days a week I use Frownies on my forehead, and when I have the time I use my 15 year old Baby Quasar red light wand while watching TV. I occasionally derma-roll (the rolling wand with the tiny needles) and apply serum afterwards. Face sheet masque are a fun treat, and I occasionally indulge in a Korean skincare masque.
Aromaleigh mineral foundation is my mainstay foundation product for daytime wear, and since it's release, I use the Sophia finishing powder daily. I like the Il Makiage plumping cream as a primer, before applying my makeup.
I also have a big focus on nutrition, healthy fats, prioritizing sleep, getting moderate exercise along with yoga/stretching. I rarely drink alcohol, and limit sugar, caffeine, processed foods. I cook at home almost exclusively. I keep stress levels in check by spending as much time as I can in nature, beekeeping, gardening/foraging, hiking, and making time for activities that bring me joy, such as music (I sing and play several instruments).
Hydration can't be overlooked for your skin's health and the appearance of your skin and how it handles products can vary drastically based on how much water you drink! I've noticed the fine lines and wrinkles get incredibly pronounced when I don't drink enough water.
I typically hydrate at least 2 liters of water a day, plus green tea in the AM and other liquids.
