Varanus komodoensis, inspired by scales of the Komodo Dragon. If you loved the "Dragon's Kiss" lipgloss from last year's Red Dragon box, this utilizes the same pigment blend, but in color creme form!

The genus name, Varanus is the latinization of the Arabic word "waran" which stands for monitor (Egyptians believed these lizards served as monitors, alerting people to the presence of crocodiles), while komodoensis refers to the island of Komodo, one of the areas where it is found. Varanus komodoensis, or the Komodo monitor lizard, is the largest lizard on earth, found only on certain islands in Indonesia.

This is a Nourishing Color Creme, which can be lightly used as a lip tint for pale lips, or layered for heavier tint on deeper toned lips. Some ingredient changes from the past Nourishing Color Creme formula includes the addition of Olive oil, Kokum, and Pomegranate butters.

My favorite lip products are wearable tints which are moisturizing. I'll always reach for this type of product before a lipstick or more pigmented product. In formulating these, I tried to balance pigment with wear and texture. The result is a tinted balm that might not seem as "slippery" upon initial application, but which warms up nicely on the lips and wears longer than more glossy and slick formulations.
