FEBRUARY 2015 COLOR OF THE MONTH - The 6th of twelve shades in the "Mythical Monsters" year theme!

This month's color is CHUPACABRA!

The chupacabra (literally "goat-sucker") is a legendary cryptid rumored to inhabit parts of the Americas, with the first sightings reported in Puerto Rico. The name comes from the animal's reported habit of attacking and drinking the blood of livestock, especially goats. Physical descriptions of the creature vary. It is purportedly a heavy creature, the size of a small bear, with a row of spines reaching from the neck to the base of the tail. Sightings in Southern America have revealed the creature to be a type of skinny, grey and mangy canid, with large fangs and bright blue eyes. (source Wikipedia)

Color Description: I wanted to make a wearable buff/earthy shade with red tones and (in person) this shade has beautiful layers of gold and sapphire blue iridescence- I was very interested in the idea in America of the chupacabra being a dog-like creature with bright blue eyes and kind of dull grey/blue skin.

Contains: Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Ferric Oxide, Ferric Ferrocyanide, Carnauba Wax, Tin Dioxide, Aluminum Powder, Silica, Red #40, Magnesium Stearate, Magnesium Myristate, Zinc Stearate

Application Tip: This color does not work well with a sticky/glue base. It contains a special brilliant blue metallic pigment, which is very fine (small micron size)- you will get a patchy result if you try to use a sticky glue base with this color. The only way to get the gorgeous effects shown in the swatch photo are to use it with a cream eyeshadow base, patted on with a flat taklon brush. It's worth it, though- the pigment in this gorgeous shade isn't available from any of the usual online middlemen that indies purchase raw ingredients from, which makes the effect this color produces beautifully unique! I use NYX cream eyeshadow base in skintone, for all of the swatches you view on this site. I find it's easy to use and works wonderfully with Aromaleigh eyeshadows.
