April's Goddess of the Month is Fortuna, Roman Goddess of Luck and Prosperity

Posted on

Fortuna  is April 2017's monthly Goddess. Each month, I will be formulating a product inspired by a Goddess suggested by my customers. Would you like to suggest a Goddess? You can do so here!

Fortuna is a delicate warm pink with green iridescence (unfortunately in photos it appears more gold- but it is green!). Artwork on mini and full sizes is a Pre-Raphaelite painting of the Goddess by an unknown artist.

FORTUNA (from Wikipedia)

Fortuna (Latin: Fortūna, equivalent to the Greek goddess Tyche) was the goddess of fortune and personification of luck in Roman religion. She might bring good or bad luck: she could be represented as veiled and blind, as in modern depictions of Lady Justice, and came to represent life's capriciousness. She was also a goddess of fate: as Atrox Fortuna, she claimed the young lives of the princeps Augustus' grandsons Gaius and Lucius, prospective heirs to the Empire.[1]

Her father was said to be Jupiter and like him, she could also be bountiful (Copia). As Annonaria she protected grain supplies.
